FOOTNOTES

That is, Accado-Sumerian.
The name of the king was really Sarganu (perhaps of the same origin as the Biblical Serug), but his Accadian subjects misunderstood it, turning it into Sarru-kinu, "established king," which was written in Sumerian Lugal-ginna,
That is, Kassite or Kossean,
Literally "the messenger of the treasury (of heaven)."
The correct reading of this word is doubtful.
The Assyro-Babylonian translation is a paraphrase, as in some other instances. The Accado-Sumerian compound is literally: "The Moon-god has established a head."
