1.  What was the Feast of Dedication?

2.  Describe briefly the conflict between Jesus and the Jews on this occasion. What question do they ask Him?  His answer?  On what grounds do they threaten to stone Him?  Jesus’ response?  How does this episode end?

3. As Jesus is journeying to Jerusalem, He is asked, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”(NIV)  Explain Jesus’ answer as well as you can in your own words.

4.  Why did the Pharisees warn Jesus against Herod?

5.  Explain verses 34 and 35 (on pp. 491, 492).

6.  Why might Jesus have been invited to dine in the home of a ruler of the Pharisees? Why would He have accepted such an invitation?

7.  In Luke 14:16ff, Jesus tells the story of “A certain man that made a great supper.”   Explain the teaching of Jesus in this parable.

8.  Jesus says you can’t be his disciple unless you hate your father, mother, wife, children, etc. (v. 26, p. 497).  Explain this difficult teaching.

9.  Express in your own words the essence of Jesus’ teaching on discipleship in verses 27-33, pages 498, 499.

10.  Explain the spiritual truth that is common to the three parables:  the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost boy.

11.  What lessons do we learn from the conduct of the father, of the prodigal son, and of the elder son?  Include a description of the conduct of each.

12.  What lessons in stewardship are taught in verses 10-12, page 509? 13.  What lessons are taught in the narrative of the rich man and Lazarus?
